MOPOP - BRANDING POP CULTURE

Creating a Brand Identity for The Museum of Pop Culture.

The Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle came to us with a bold challenge: reimagine their brand in a way that fully cemented their place as the definitive home of pop culture in the United States. Pop culture, after all, isn’t something you can pin down—it’s loud, messy, nostalgic, futuristic, and constantly reinventing itself. A traditional, static logo simply couldn’t do it justice.

So instead of designing something fixed and permanent, we did the opposite. We created a living identity, one that rejects stillness in favor of motion, evolution, and energy. Inspired by the core pillars of pop culture, the new logo system flexes, shifts, and adapts, reflecting the way culture itself is always remixing the past while charging toward what’s next.

The result is an identity that feels bold, expressive, and unapologetically alive. It doesn’t just represent pop culture, it behaves like it. Loud when it needs to be, playful when it can be, and endlessly changeable, the new brand captures the spirit of creativity, fandom, and innovation that defines MoPOP. Just like pop culture, it never stands still.

USING AI TO CREATE A LOGO THAT EVOLVES IN REALTIME

To push our connection to pop culture even further and to prove our dedication to what’s happening right now we developed a prototype for an AI-powered version of the logo.

This living identity tapped into real-time social chatter, using it as raw material to generate completely unique letterforms on the fly, each one inspired by a core pillar of pop culture. No two expressions were ever the same. Constantly shifting, reacting, and evolving, the logo became more than a mark, it became a living system. Part artwork, part cultural artifact, it existed in a perpetual state of becoming, just like pop culture itself.
